Winter 2000

This is the photo from our county’s tax data website. We’re estimating it was taken in the Winter of 2000, but we aren’t 100% positive. Since the picture shows the house pretty much how it looked when we moved in, we decided to use it as the first photo in the archive.

November 2003

Notable changes: New roof on the main part of the main house, new eaves troughs on main house, some new paint on the upper parts of the main house, the new picket fence, and the addition of some new flower beds.

November 2004

Notable changes: Upper part of tower side finished, the front left side of the breezeway completed, and the new breezeway roof (both not easily seen in this shot).

November 2005

Notable changes: New roof on summer kitchen/servant’s quarters, the front right side of the breezeway completed (not easily seen in this shot), and the archway over the front gate with the lattice work trellis on each side.

December 2006

Notable changes: Scaffolding and partially finished roof (front side) on tower as well as the addition of another section of lattice work trellis on the right side of the front arbor.

November 2007

Notable changes: More new shingles added to the tower roof (front side).

December 2008

Notable changes: More new shingles added to the tower roof (front side). Also, our neighbor’s big tree behind our house is gone (due to a July storm that was packing 100mph straight-line winds).

November 2009

Notable changes: Not many major changes visible in this shot. The new front on the carriage house/garage is partially visible.

November 2010

Notable changes: Not many major changes visible in this shot. The stacks of bricks were supposed to be for rebuilding the main chimney, but this summer’s weather was uncooperative (too much rain), so the job didn’t even get started.

December 2011

Notable changes: New siding installed and painted on lower part of the east wall. The stacks of bricks were supposed to be for rebuilding the main chimney last year, but the spring weather was uncooperative (too much rain), so the job didn’t even get started (once again).

December 2012

Notable changes: No changes actually visible in this shot. Changes this year included, new cellar door, interior breezeway work, and some exterior breezeway reworking. The stacks of bricks are still there, once again, because the job didn’t even get started. Hopefully, this will get done next spring.

November 2013

Notable changes: No changes actually visible in this shot. Changes this year included, an extended paver patio, a new fire pit, and running an underground electrical wire for a new pond/fountain in the courtyard. The stacks of bricks are still there, just hiding behind our new “money pit on wheels.”

November 2014

Notable changes: Changes this year included, breezeway roof leak repairs and a new walkway project for the courtyard. The “money pit on wheels” is, once again, hiding the stacks of bricks.  Our street was reconstructed this summer, and utilities were all redone, as well.  One of the utility poles was moved, and is now visible in my photo.

December 2015

Notable changes: Changes this year included, new breezeway roof, interior and exterior breezeway work.

December 2016

Notable changes: Changes this year included, exterior breezeway work, and the beginnings of the main chimney replacement (finally, yay!!!).

December 2017

Notable changes: Changes this year included, upper west and south main roof repairs after wind storm (chimney repair got put on hold), west-most porch column removed for repair, and the addition of a mobile money pit…

December 2018

Notable changes: Changes this year included, some chimney rebuild progress (only 7 more courses to go) and the west-most porch column repair completed (but not yet reinstalled).

December 2019

Notable changes: None. Due to the very hot and rainy spring/summer, we got nothing done on the exterior this year.  Hoping for better weather next year.

December 2020

Notable changes: Changes this year included, work on the front porch. Three of the four porch posts were restored, and the porch roof was raised back up and secured to the main house. No chimney work was done, though.

December 2021

Notable changes: Changes this year included, more work on the front porch. The fourth porch post is almost fully restored, but I didn’t have enough nice weather to get it installed before winter. The Carriage House/Garage was painted (not pictured). Some of the window screens were replaced. The rotted out cellar door was replaced with a new steel door (not pictured). No chimney work was done, though.

December 2022

Notable changes: Changes this year included, more work on the front porch. The fourth porch post was re-installed, which allowed me to finally bring the porch roof back up to where it needs to be. I also replaced all of the siding to the right of the front door, added insulation into that portion of the wall, and restored the half porch post that attaches to that part of the wall. The scaffolding around the tower was taken down because it was really becoming unsafe due to rot. No chimney work was done, though.

December 2023

Notable changes: Changes this year included, a new roof on the back part of the Main House, I repaired, replaced, scraped, and repainted all of the decorative siding on the second story, and we finally got rid of the silver piece of junk taking up driveway space. And, again… no chimney work was done.
