Melissa always wanted a fireplace, wood burning, preferred.  So, it was eating her alive that the fireplace was bricked closed.  One day, she decided that she was going to open it up to see what condition it was in.

After the brick wall was removed, the firebox and flue were filled with several loose bricks which had apparently fallen from the inside of the chimney over the years.  Also, there was a lot of brick & mortar dust, creosote, dirt, old bird nests and bird skeletons mixed in.  It was a very dirty job to get it all cleaned out.

The firebox, still full of debris.

The view up the flue.
