The area of the bathroom directly above the Dining Room. We did a little “exploratory surgery” in the top part of the strange box thing in the corner to verify that the pipes were indeed running inside of it. The vent pipe was visible inside, so….
It was time for all of it to come down.
With the top part removed, you can see that they used this to hide all sorts of things. Along with the vent pipe, there’s an electrical wire, a cable tv wire, and a phone wire all running up into the attic.
The rest of the boxed in area removed.
Some of the box framing removed.
When the previous owners remodeled this bathroom, they just placed 2 x 4s on the wall and attached the drywall to them. This created a cavity to run the new wiring without having the ugly metal tubes visible. For now, I guess it will have to suffice, but we’ll make a note to get rid of all of it as another future project. We removed a part of the drywall just to see where the electrical wire coming from the basement and the wire going to the attic were connected. It was at this junction box.
